Motherless Brooklyn

8.7/10 from 10 Users

A gritty tale of big city corruption set in 1950s New York, based on the best-selling novel by Jonathan Lethem. MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN follows Lionel Essrog (Norton), a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome, as he ventures to solve the murder of his mentor, boss and only friend, Frank (Willis). It’s a mystery that takes Lionel from the gin-soaked jazz clubs of Harlem to the hard-edged slums of Brooklyn and into the gilded halls of New York’s power brokers. All in sumptuous period setting, complemented by an atmospheric bluesy score by Daniel Pemberton which features trumpet playing by Wynton Marsalis. The starry cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a passionate activist lawyer, Alec Baldwin as the evil politician and Willem Dafoe as a disgraced engineer.
