LAFS Presents: Gallipoli

The London Australian Film Society are proud to mark ANZAC Day with a very rare screening of Peter Weir and David Williamson’s classic WW1 feature, Gallipoli. A youthful Mel Gibson and Mark Lee star as competitive running buddies who join the war effort for an adventure. Starting their training in Egypt they are soon shipped off to the terrifying beaches and trenches of Gallipoli, where a national identity was forged amidst countless personal tragedies. Steeped in myth and heart wrenchingly well-acted, this is a must watch for all Australians (and Kiwis) who wish to mark this solemn day, with or without the 5am dawn service. A raffle will be held, proceeds of which will be donated to RSL Australia, and Australian snacks will be on sale. With thanks to CIC and Park Circus. “Gallipoli was, and is, a triumph.” David Stratton, At the Movies “One of the most elegiac anti-war films ever made.” Martin Chilton, Daily Telegraph
