Join Caleb Azumah Nelson in collaboration with Dark Matter for a special screening of his short film Pray (2023) followed by an In Conversation discussing his film and literary works. Pray (B Side / BBC Films) Traversing grief, hope, first love and home, Pray is a portrait of brotherhood that looks at what we will do for the people we love, how we find joy in the midst of overwhelming despair, and how the community can lift us up. Set in the glow of a South London summer, two brothers try to find freedom after the loss of their parents.Through parties of celebration, to gatherings of remembrance, two brothers strive to find freedom from grief after losing their parents. Caleb Azumah Nelson Caleb Azumah Nelson is a British-Ghanaian writer, photographer and filmmaker living in South East London. His first novel, Open Water (2021), won the Costa First Novel Award and Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards, and was a number-one Times bestseller. His second novel, Sunday Times Bestseller Small Worlds (2023), is shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and longlisted for the Jhalak Prize. Copies of Small Worlds paperback, released on April 25, Caleb’s photobook Beacon and Open Water and will be available to buy on the day from Round Table Books and the event will be followed by a signing.
