Three Minutes in Three Weeks, a Mini-Filmmaking

This course will run at The Little Theatre (Bath) for three consecutive Saturdays. Your ticket will be valid for all three sessions. When: Every Saturday for 3 weeks, starting Saturday 29th June Time: 11am - 2pm What do you need to bring: You'll just need to bring your smartphone with you. 'Cine filmmaking, especially with the use of 8mm film, imposed a natural constraint on filmmakers due to the limited length of film available, typically around three minutes. This limitation required a high level of discipline, creativity, and precision, compelling filmmakers to meticulously plan each shot and narrative element to tell their story within a constrained time frame. In the spirit of embracing these valuable lessons, our Mini-Filmmaking Club adopts a similar discipline by challenging participants to craft a three-minute film using just their smartphones. The emphasis will be placed on storytelling, careful consideration of each chosen shot, and thorough ideation. This approach aims to instill a true filmmaker's discipline, encouraging participants to craft visual stories in a concise and effective manner. The value of efficient filmmaking practices, as once learned with real film, is immense in today’s digital age. With virtually unlimited digital storage and the ability to shoot countless takes without worrying about the cost of film, it's easy to lose sight of the importance of pre-production planning and in-camera editing. Our club's approach counteracts this trend by fostering an environment where each frame and second is given the consideration it deserves, thereby cultivating a deeper appreciation for the craft of filmmaking.'
