To mark Earth Day 2025, Cinetopia:DOC is proud to host the UK premiere of THE WHITE HOUSE EFFECT, a revelatory journey through a pivotal moment in the history of the climate crisis. Using exclusively archival footage as narrative, THE WHITE HOUSE EFFECT transports viewers back to 1988-1992, when the world stood at a crossroads in addressing global warming - the 'greenhouse effect'. This compelling documentary exposes how President George H.W. Bush's administration, caught between increasingly alarming scientific evidence and mounting pressure from industrial titans, as well as battling rifts within his own White House team, ultimately undermined crucial climate action at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. This decision dramatically altered our planet's future and set us on the path towards our current climate emergency. From the acclaimed filmmaking team behind ATHLETE A, AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL:TRUTH TO POWER, and the Oscar-nominated LEAD ME HOME, THE WHITE HOUSE EFFECT is an unflinching look at how political battles within the White House, and media narratives outside of it, shaped our environmental destiny.
