In Peter Weir’s Oscar-nominated film, Jim Carrey stars as a man whose entire life is recorded for a TV audience of millions – all without him knowing. But a series of events and coincidences lead him to question the nature of his reality. This screening is part of a series /Philosophy and Film/. After the screening there will be a short talk from Neil Williams, from the Philosophy Department at the University of Southampton on the philosophical themes in the film, followed by a Q&A period. What philosophical issues are raised by The Truman Show? How are those issues resolved in the film, and how are those same issues addressed by philosophers, past or present?
