Relaxed Screening - Freaks & The Elephant Man
Join us for a relaxed double bill of Tod Browning’s Freaks & David Lynch’s The Elephant Man: a pair of ahead-of-their-time films about disability. Both found their home on the alternative cinema circuits of the 1930s and 80s respectively, embraced by those who found resonance in all the credence they gave—and still give—to marginalised people. This double bill is open to all, will be introduced by Lynchspirations season programmer Hope Hopkinson, with an interval and informal discussion group about the film’s themes and resonance. Timings: 6:30: Introduction + FREAKS 7.50: Intermission + in-screen discussion 8.20: THE ELEPHANT MAN Please note: these screenings will have no ads or trailers, so make sure to arrive with plenty of time! Relaxed screenings are designed to make cinema-going easier for those needing additional support, including neurodivergent audiences and those living with dementia.
