BAR TRASH: CITY UNDER THE SEA
BAR TRASH celebrates our 3rd year and 10th sensational season with WE ARE TRASH!, a fan-made mixtape of cult and chaotic cinema (May to Aug 2025). CITY UNDER THE SEA: 60TH ANNIVERSARY (1965) Doors: 6pm. Intro + Film + Intermission: 6:30pm – 9pm Event takes place in the Members’ Bar (membership not required) Adults 18+ only In 1903, a group of locals discover an underwater city off the coast of Cornwall. Continuing our Vincent Price Sidequest — showing exclusively at Finsbury Park Picturehouse — we are stupidly proud to present the ‘The Master of Menace’ in an Edwardian action-adventure! CITY UNDER THE SEA — aka ‘War-Gods of the Deep’ — is an underwater odyssey about the discovery of a lost city off the coast of Cornwall. The last project directed by Jacques Tourneur (NIGHT OF THE DEMON), the film includes scenes from an earlier film by Ishirō Honda and features ‘The Sigh Guy’ aka gay icon Tab Hunter, David Tomlinson (MARY POPPINS), and Susan Hart (THE SLIME PEOPLE). CITY UNDER THE SEA is so rarely screened we didn’t want to hide it as a mystery title but have thrust it into the spotlight to celebrate its 60th Anniversary. And to reassure you that ‘rarely screened’ isn’t just more promotional ballyhoo, we have been advised by the film’s UK distributor that Token Homo is the first person to ever book CITY UNDER THE SEA with them (they had to check with the studio to make sure the rights were still available…). A properly rare treat! Polite notice: We are showing our CITY UNDER THE SEA without subtitles from the best available digital source (a Spanish blu-ray as it happens). /// BAR TRASH is a celebration of cult and curious cinema, hosted by queer film fanatic Token Homo and friends. Films are served with introductions, intermissions, prize giveaways, and subtitles / captions where possible. Tickets £8 / £5 for PH members. Adults 18+ only.
